Odorous house ants have many homes with many queens. Homes are usually found under pieces of wood or debris in landscaping.These ants are smaller in size measuring 2.4 to 3.3 mm in length. Their color is either dark brown or black.
Pavement ants have many Queens and usually nest under rocks or pavement. They mine the sand/soil from under concrete slabs, patios, sidewalks, driveways or basements. These ants are one size usually about 2.5 to 3 mm long. They also possess a stinger.

Carpenter Ants
Carpenter Ants are structurally damaging insects. Their home usually includes a parent nest with a queen and then brood satellite nest. The brood nest consists of mature brood, worker ants, as well as winged ants. The color of the ants varies, as there are more than one species of carpenter ants in North America. There is a variety of size within one colony but are usually recognized by their smooth thoracic profile.

Hornets
Bald-faced Hornets are most active during the day. Belongs to a genus of yellow jackets in North America, unlike most though, it lacks any yellow coloring. Build paper nest, the females are known to defend these nest with repeated stinging.
Size: 15-20mm ( larger that most yellow jackets)
Color: black body with a face marked in white, and three white stripes on the end of the abdomen.
Characteristics: Protective of the nest. More aggressive than most yellow jackets.
Nests: Football shaped, can be up to 14 inches in diameter and 23 inches in length. Nest population varies from 100 to 700 individuals.

A comb-footed spider known for its webs. Known as a part of the cobweb spiders. Basements, closets and crawl spaces are places where they usually build their webs.
Color: Brown, tan, or greyish with darker brown patterns.
Size: small to medium ( about the size of a nickel)
Features: rounded abdomen
Risks: Typically harmless
Long-bodied Cellar spider ( Pholcus phalangioides)
Usually builds webs in basements, cellars, crawl spaces, garages, and other dark areas.
Color: light brownish-tan, beige, or grey
Size: small, round body.
Features: long,skinny legs
Brown Recluse (loxosceles reclusa)
Part of the brown spider family. Established in 15 states. You can usually find them indoors in attics, crawl spaces, between walls, in furniture, and in basements.
Color: Brown or greyish
Size oval body, about ⅓” long
Features: 3 pairs of eyes plus dark, violin-shaped marking on body.
Risks: Venom affect the tissue at site of bite. Medical attention is needed due to dangerous reactions can occur from the venom. Symptoms are usually fever, rash , pain, and nausea and children tend to be more sensitive to the bites.
Sac Spiders ( Families Clubionidae, Miturgidae, and Corinnidae)
These spiders do not make webs. Usually are found near ceiling fans or high up on walls. They are active all year round, usually at night.
Color: light-colored,yellow,beige
Size: oval body, about ½” inch long
Features:2 rows of 8 small eyes.
Risks: Harmless to most people, bites may produce swelling and soreness at site.If you have spider bite allergies you may experience a reaction that could need treatment.

Stinkbugs were founded in east Asia and were reported in the United States in the 1990’s. Their name comes from the odor they release when they are crushed. They release this same odor when they are protecting their homes.
These Bugs are not dangerous to humans but since they like to eat plants they can do damage to plants and crops.

Cicada Killers are larger that digger wasps. Use cicadas as prey and provision nests with them. Female cicada killer wasps are not aggressive and rarely sting. Males are more aggressive they defend their perch areas and nesting sites from other males but have no sting.
Size: 0.6-2 inches long
Color: Reddish and black areas on thorax and are black to reddish brown marked with light yellow stripes on abdominal segments. Wings are brownish.
Characteristics: Thorax is hairy. Females are somewhat larger than males. Solitary wasps.
Mud Daubers are known for making their nest with mud. These wasps are not aggressive but do not approach their nest without extreme caution.
Size: 0.5-1 inch long
Color: completely black or blue metallic. Some species have greenish or yellow markings on the body.
Characteristics: body is :threated-waisted”. Some species have long and thin body segments.
Nests: some build nests in cylindrical tubes, others build nests composed of a series of cylindrical cells that they plaster over to look smooth. Usually about the size of a lemon. Some species do not build nest and just occupy abandoned nests of other Dauber species.
Paper wasps build water resistant nests made out of fibers from dead wood and plant stems. They mix these materials with saliva. These nest appear as gray or brown paper material. Usually only attack if they or their nests are threatened. However, their stings can be quite painful.
Size:0.7-1 inch long
Color: narrow bodies mostly dark brown with black wings and yellow markings.
Characteristics: Hairy Thorax. Females are somewhat larger than the males.
Nests: open combs with cells or brood rearing and a “petiole” or a stalk that anchors the nest. Usually made from paper and can be found in sheltered areas.

They dig very extensive burrowing systems.They have two different types of burrows they dig. Shallow ones where they can hide while they are foraging, and deeper ones where they store food and spend the majority of the winter months there. They usually never go further than ⅓ mile from their burrows.
Their diets consist of various types of food that can be mostly found on the ground.
